Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Magnetlings ("we", "us", "our") collects, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. It covers our website at magnetlings.com, our email addresses, our official social media pages, and the Magnetlings mobile game and any related services (together, the "Services").

The short version: our website does not track you, we never sell your personal information, and we only collect what we need to make the game work, keep it fair and safe, support players and, for players who choose the free ad-supported option, show ads.

1. Who we are

Magnetlings is an independent game studio project developing the Magnetlings game. For the purposes of data protection law, Magnetlings is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us about anything in this policy at privacy@magnetlings.com.

2. Information we collect

When you visit magnetlings.com

• We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or our own cookies on this website.
• Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, automatically processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so it can deliver the site and protect it from abuse. This information is kept in short-lived security logs.
• The page loads our fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and browser information when it serves the font files.
• Videos on our site are not loaded until you press play. When you do, the video is loaded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that video.

When you email us

If you write to hello@, press@, support@, privacy@ or legal@magnetlings.com, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you choose to tell us, plus anything you attach. We use it only to reply and to help with your request.

When you play the Magnetlings game

The game is still in development. When it launches, we expect to collect the following, and we will update this policy before launch if anything changes.

• Game progress and settings: levels completed, stars earned, Magnetlings unlocked, and settings such as sound and language. This is stored on your device and, if you turn on cloud save, with the cloud service for your platform.
• Device and technical information: device model, operating system version, language, app version, and a random identifier for your installation, used to keep the game running properly.
• Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data (for example, frame rate, load times and error logs) so we can find and fix bugs.
• Gameplay analytics: anonymous or pseudonymous events such as when a level is started, finished or restarted and whether a hint was used. This helps us find levels that are too hard, too easy or broken.
• Purchase information: if you buy the Full Adventure, Apple or Google processes the payment. We receive a receipt confirming what was bought so we can unlock it. We never see or store your card details.
• Advertising information: only if you choose to continue playing for free with ads. See section 5.
• Support information: anything you send us when asking for help, which may include your installation identifier so we can look into a problem.

We do not ask for your name, home address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location or microphone access in order to play.

When you interact with us on social media

If you follow, message or comment on our pages on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook or Bluesky, those platforms share information with us under their own policies, such as your public profile name and the content of your message. We use it only to engage with you on that platform.

3. How we use information

• To provide, run and save your progress in the game and to deliver this website.
• To unlock purchases and restore them on a new device.
• To understand how the game is played so we can improve levels, balance difficulty and fix bugs.
• To show ads to players who choose the free ad-supported option, and to measure whether those ads were shown correctly.
• To answer your emails and support requests.
• To keep the Services secure, prevent fraud and cheating, and comply with the law.
• To tell you about important changes, such as an update to this policy.

We do not use your information to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Advertising in the game

We plan for the first world of Magnetlings to be free. After that, players can either buy the Full Adventure, which removes ads, or continue for free with light ads shown between some completed levels and optional ads you can choose to watch for a hint or bonus. We will never show an ad while you are in the middle of a puzzle.

• For players who continue for free, ads are provided by advertising partners that may collect device information and your device's advertising identifier to deliver and measure ads.
• Where the law requires consent, ads will only be personalized if you agree. Otherwise you will see non-personalized ads based on the context, such as the game itself.
• On iOS, we will ask for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any cross-app tracking. You can change this any time in your iPhone or iPad settings.
• On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your device's settings.
• Players identified as under 13 (or the age of digital consent where they live) will only ever see non-personalized ads. See section 8.

6. Service providers and partners

We use trusted companies to run the Services. They may only use your information to provide their service to us, or under their own privacy policies where noted.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

This website does not set its own cookies and does not use analytics or advertising cookies. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people apart from bots. If you press play on a video, YouTube may set its own cookies. In the game, our partners may use identifiers and similar technologies as described in section 5.

8. Children's privacy

Magnetlings is a cozy puzzle game that people of all ages can enjoy, including families. We take children's privacy seriously.

• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the higher age of digital consent where they live) beyond what is needed to support the internal operation of the game, such as saving progress and fixing crashes.
• For younger players we will not use personalized advertising, behavioral profiling or cross-app tracking, and we will configure our partners accordingly.
• We do not offer chat, user profiles or any way for players to share personal information with each other in the game.
• If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information, please contact privacy@magnetlings.com and we will delete it.

9. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising except, with your consent where required, through our advertising partners for players who choose the free ad-supported option. We share information only:

• with the service providers and partners listed above;
• if required by law, court order or a valid request from authorities;
• to protect the rights, safety and security of our players, the public or us;
• as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the project, in which case we will make sure this policy continues to protect your information or tell you about any change.

10. How long we keep information

• Emails and support conversations: up to 24 months after the conversation ends, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
• Game progress: on your device for as long as the game is installed, and in cloud save until you delete it or ask us to.
• Diagnostics and analytics: up to 24 months, in a form that does not directly identify you.
• Purchase records: as long as needed to restore your purchases and as required by tax and accounting law.
• Website security logs: kept by Cloudflare for a short period, typically days.

11. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) for this website and our services, limit who can access information, and choose providers with strong security practices. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work hard to protect your information and will notify you and regulators of a breach where the law requires.

12. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework to protect information transferred from the EEA, UK or Switzerland.

13. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it;
• correct information that is wrong;
• delete your information;
• object to or restrict certain uses, including direct marketing;
• take your information to another service (data portability);
• withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what we did before you withdrew it;
• complain to your local data protection authority.

To make a request, email privacy@magnetlings.com. In the game, we plan to include a "Delete my data" option in settings. We will respond within 30 days (or the time your local law requires). We may need to confirm your identity first, for example by asking for your installation identifier. We will never treat you differently for exercising your rights. You can also opt out of personalized ads at any time as described in section 5.

14. California and other US states

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights described above, including the right to know, delete and correct, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising.

• In the past 12 months we have collected the categories described in section 2: identifiers (such as email address and device or advertising identifiers), commercial information (purchase records), internet or network activity (game events, diagnostics, website security logs) and the content of your messages.
• We collect them from you, your device and our partners, for the purposes in section 3, and disclose them to the providers in section 6.
• We do not sell personal information. If you play the free ad-supported version, the use of advertising identifiers by ad partners may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws; you can opt out in the game's settings, through your device's ad settings, or by emailing us.
• We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information.
• You may use an authorized agent to make a request. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision; if we deny the appeal, you can contact your state attorney general.

15. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Our website does not track you, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to turn off. Where the law requires, we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for the browser or device that sends it.

16. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as the game gets closer to launch and when our practices change. We will change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we will give notice on this website or in the game before the change takes effect.
